We set off in sunshine from Buckden to Cray and then over to Yockenthwaite along a path that gave great views along the dale. After a brief mid-morning break we tackled the steep climb up to Horse Head, by the time we reached the top clouds had rolled in and a breeze had sprung up. Pen-y-Ghent and Fountains Fell were lost in the clouds but we enjoyed good views of Littondale as we made our way to Beckermonds where we had a lunch stop before making our way back to Buckden along the Dales Way. The highlight of the day was the wildflower meadows along the River Wharfe which were in full bloom as we walked through them - a true kaleidoscope of brilliant colours. A very enjoyable walk in good company.
