Fourteen contestants for this charming walk around a part of the lovely Dales countryside (although one very soon dropped out for reasons beyond their control).  Starting from the village carpark in Gargrave we traversed 19 miles around this green and pleasant land.  I'm not kidding it really was very green.  It seems spring is here.  The weather pleasantly went along with the chitting and chatting.  We welcomed new faces too.

We left Gargrave on the Pennine Way but detoured onto Mark House Lane towards the little hamlet of Bell Busk and then Airton.  Soon climbing up Calton Moor to reach Weets Top (with a little history lesson from our leader).  Here stands the remains of a medieval monastic wayside cross used as a boundary stone and route marker to and from Fountains Abbey estate.  Turning east towards Bordley we soon skirted the top end of Winterburn reservoir and down Boss Moor Lane into the village of Hetton.  Not too far to go now we continued on the Dales High Way (national trail) into Flasby and then on the road back to Gargrave.  The course was undulating, but not too strenuous.  We had wonderful views all day long.  What more could we ask for.

Thank you to our leader, photographer and all those who joined us.  Hope you all had a very enjoyable day
