South Downs Way September 2023

A small group of Lakeland Members ventured south to tackle another National Trail - South Downs Way from Eastbourne to Winchester.  We were very lucky with decent weather for almost the whole trip and enjoyed a late Indian summer.  The route is a gentle walk, with plenty of opportunity to climb some hills so those of us collecting Marilyns and humps and tumps were most happy.  The route passes through some pretty villages such as Alfriston and Meonstoke so accommodation options were reasonable and taxi companies were most helpful about creating a linear route.
