Spring in lakeland 50 Anytime Challenge - 2021

Here are the details of our Spring in Lakeland 50 mile route which was originally proposed from a base at Staveley.  During covid this became a route you could walk around as an anytime challenge.  You are still welcome to use the route description and GPX files although you should note that we have not checked the routes for some time now.  They consist of

Loop 1 - 18 Miles   Route Description here       GPX Loop 1 Here

Loop 2 - 16 Miles   Route Description here       GPX Loop 2 Here

Loop 3 - 16 Miles   Route Description here       GPX Loop 3 Here

ALL THREE = 50 Miles

Start location is Staveley outside the village Institute.  There is street parking in the village but do try to be considerate of the shop fronts which may need access during the day.

Loop 1 (18 miles) follows the Dales Way to the outskirts of Windermere to join the tourists on an ascent of Orrest Head. A steady climb to near 1500 feet up the Garburn Pass reveals the Far Eastern Fells in all their glory and leads to the lovely quiet valley of Kentmere and back to Staveley.

Add Loop 2 (34 miles total) to climb Potter Fell for views as far as the 40 miles to Blackpool Tower and into the even lovelier and quieter Longsleddale valley, where you will be outnumbered by new born lambs in April.

Add Loop 3 (your 50 miles option), heading South to Kendal via the impressive limestone escarpment of Scout Scar, with an easy return for tired legs along the River Kent.

Free off road parking, Staveley itself has some pre and post event attractions, not least Hawkshead Brewery, and is very well served by road  and public transport links.
