Wainwright Wanders Weekend from Threlkeld May 2023

This weekend enabled us to continue our wandering looping walk around the Lake District, picking up the Wainwright Fells on the way.  The base was Threlkeld with the first walk visiting Blencathra, Mungrisedale Common, Bowscale Fell, Bannerdale Crags, Souther Fell, with then a brief respite into the valley.  Then after a swift drink at the pub at Mungrisedale, it was onwards and steeply upwards to Carrock Fell and High Pike before a dash (ok stagger) down to Caldbeck in time for the mini bus back to base.  All on a beautiful warm early summer day with stupendous views.  Day two dawned much cooler (which was helpful to be fair) and our walk took in Binsey then looped over the fields to gain Longlands Fell, Brae Fell, Great Sca Fell, Meal Fell, Great Cockup (long out and back, phew!), then looping back to Knott and Great Calva.  A welcome pit stop came at Skiddaw House where an honesty box allows you to pop in and brew up a very refreshing cup of tea, before enjoying the saunter back along the valley high above Glenderaterra.  A splendid weekend, and there will be more looping around the Wainwrights in 2024 so watch this website for information.
