Circumnavigate the Globe Clockwise - Thurs 1st June 2023

Leader: Jim Blakelock
16 miles

Clockwise Around The Globe was an excellent walk. Jim our leader got a BBN mug from Gill for leading his first walk, and we were also joined by Charlie the dog with his boss Trevor.

We left the Globe on time at 09.30 and headed along the canal for a couple of miles before we left it to head across the fields. 1.5 hours walking and we stopped for 15 min T break in a field. We crossed a bridge that was the scene of the Great Train Robbery. then on to Stewkley for lunch. We headed just off course to the Carpenters Arms in Stewkley for a beer but only to find that the pub was closed till 4pm, so we had our grub on the tables outside for about 30 mins.  We crossed over RAF Wing which I did not know even existed, apparently it was quite busy during the war.

The weather when we left The Globe was overcast, but in the afternoon the sun shone and it became quite warm in the sun. About a couple of miles before we got back to The Globe the path got quite overgrown and there were pot holes that you could not see and at one section we were walking on an overgrown path with a hidden ditch next to it. Not knowing that there was a ditch there. I nearly ended up in the ditch, but thankfully i managed to keep upright.

With Llamas, Wallabies and Rheas, (small ostriches) on the route it was a very interesting route and we arrived back at The Globe unscathed. Myself, Jim and Steve ended up having a beer in The Globe before we headed for home. Jim told me there was a Wetherspoons in Leighton Buzzard so I decided to try it out for my curry club, and I am glad to announce that it was as good as The Red Well in Wellingborough.

Here's to 3 weeks’ time when we walk anticlockwise around the Globe.
