Rutland Venture 1999-2005
The Rutland Venture ran from 1999 until 2005 - seven events in total. It was organised by Peter Bearne from Easton-on-the Hill; 26 and 16 miles in the scenic countryside south east of Stamford, through attractive villages and alongside Rutland Water.
The horseshoe on the event badge and certificate is the symbol of the county of Rutland. There remains a unique tradition that peers of the realm forfeit a horseshoe to the Lord of the Manor of Oakham on their first visit to the town. Two hundred and thirty horseshoes currently decorate the walls of Oakham Castle.
