10th Pick & Mix Challenge Event – Sunday 31st May 2026
Organisers: Dave and Lynn Yorston - their tenth and final Pick & Mix
A thank you to Lynn and Dave
Who remembers the shock of Woolworths closing?
After several successful Wendover Gap events, Lynn and Dave came up with the idea of a walk of loops, and what better name for it than the Pick & Mix – in tribute to those iconic Woolworths' sweet counters.
Today is the 10th Pick & Mix. The first one took place in 2010, and the first five events were held earlier in the year, in March. But in 2018 heavy snow forced the event to be postponed until June. The response to the change of date from participants was so positive - the weather was better, the countryside so lovely that the event permanently moved to its current spot on the calendar.
That the event continues to be so popular is completely down to the hard work, dedication and commitment of Lynn and Dave. The concept of a “loopy” walk has proved extremely popular – it opens the event to all capabilities. Who knows who you will bump into walking a different loop, and it is lovely to see friends meeting back at HQ between their different loops.
The event will be continuing in 2027 with a new organiser, but we must thank Lynn and Dave for their tireless work in making the Pick & Mix such a popular event. And for all the other work they have done down the years as committee members, organisers, leaders, marshals ….. You name it, they have done it.
