Spring at Strawberry Hill -Thursday 14th May 2026

Leader: Steve Clark

A 9am start instead of 9.30am so we could amble through Strawberry Hill nature reserve listening for the birds. 13 of us plus Alfie (4 were new walkers, walking for the first time with us) headed out along the side of the lake at Harrold and Odell Country Park then through Odell Great Wood, passing a research establishment and heading for Strawberry Hill.

Morning break was at Souldrop at 10.30 then it was not long before we saw Strawberry Hill in the distance. At Strawberry Hill we slowed the pace down and just wandered through the nature reserve enjoying the birds singing in the trees. Birds we heard were Blackcap, Blackbird, Wren, Cuckoo, Robin, Chiffchaff, and Willow Warbler. No Nightingale was heard.

Back out into the countryside we headed for Sharnbrook where we had our lunch stop. A few had a pint in the local pub there. Then from Sharnbrook we headed back to Odell, then back to the cars. The weather was good to us and stayed cloudy but we got the sun.
