Seven Parishes Millennium Walk - Sunday 21st May 2023

Leader: Chris Burns

Well, what a day, 15 trailblazers turned up for Chris’s 7 Parishes on Sunday, visiting Eversholt, Ridgmont, Husborne Crawley, Aspley Guise, Woburn Sands and Aspley Heath.

We left promptly at 9am and headed out towards the deer park of Woburn Abbey. As we crossed the deer park there were a couple of deer herds grazing and they watched us closely as we passed by. Out the other side and on to a road, we turned left and walked through our first parish of Eversholt, then on to Ridgmont our second parish, where we had our morning tea break next to the decommissioned church.
After tea break we headed for Husborne Crawley our third parish then on to Aspley Guise, our fourth parish.

Left at the church and up a steep hill and on to the Woburn Sands/Aspley Guise common where there was a cricket match going on and we had our lunch break. After lunch we headed for Woburn Sands our 5th parish, then up into the woods of Aspley Heath for our 6th parish, and back into Woburn the 7th parish at 14.30.

We had a great walk, the sun shone all day. Lucy who I had not seen for ages turned up to walk with us so I gave her a big hug. It took us 5.5 hours to walk 14.5 miles, not bad considering our leader has only got a pair of short legs.

A great walk, cheers Chris.

(A piece of nostalgia...... 20 years ago the 7 Parishes walk was the first walk that I led for the BBN. How did that come about you ask, well one day I was saying to Gill that there should be more tea breaks on a walk, and Gill answered "If you want more tea breaks you'll have to lead your own Steve". AND on that day of the "Tea Bag Trot" there was a oyster fair in Woburn and there was a roundabout, and on the roundabout there were cups and saucers to sit in so I had to have a ride didn’t I. Gill came up with the name "THE TEA BAG TROT" Can't think why, and later I led it as a night walk....Well whad’ya know, eh).
