Hathersage Trip - 28th-31st August 2020

Leader: Roy Carter

Itinerary: Hathersage Weekend

Some of Norman's photos from the first two days of the Hathersage weekend

Day 1 (or half day rather ) of BBN Derbyshire weekend based on Hathersage. Excellently organised and led by Roy Carter. 8 mile walk taking in Higger Tor, Carl Walk, Padley Gorge and a raging River Derwent.
9 intrepid souls set off from the bus stop at 1330. A bit damp (okay understated way of saying it was chucking it down).  Lots of short sharp climbs which resulted in some of us (okay me!) out of breath very quickly. It’s not like this walking around the concrete cows in Milton Keynes I tell ya! A lovely half day with beautiful scenery even with inclement weather.

Day 2 of the BBN Derbyshire weekend. A lot better weather. Set off from Hathersage station to Grindleford station by train. Then up and up AND up to Froggatt Edge for some spectacular views and cliff edge views. When going up you have to go down which we did to Curber for tea break at 12 noon (SteveClark would never have lasted that long ) . Passed Calver Mill which was used as a location for the BBC Colditz TV series in the 70s. From there it was a steady climb to a hill overlooking  Eyam, the plague village.  Then down to the road and UP to Eyam green for a much needed break. I went back with Lucy and Dave, taking the shorter route and Roy led the merry band on the original route he had planned,  We completed 12-13 miles and Roy's group did about 15 miles. A good strenuous day out in the stunning Peak District.
