Round Manchester Hiking Trail

Cheshire, Derbyshire, Gtr Manchester, Lancashire, W Yorkshire

249 km / 155 miles
This 155 mile walk encircles the City of Manchester and has been designed with the intention of not only including as much as possible of the best scenery on the way, but also ensuring that it is easily accessible by public transport. Each of the thirteen recommended stages starts and finishes either at a railway or bus station or a recognised bus stop.

Starting from Macclesfield and heading clockwise, the early stages are relatively flat. The route then heads through the West Pennine Moors and South Pennines before passing through the Peak District.

Highlights along the way include Alderley Edge, the River Bollin, Tatton Park, Glaze Brook, the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, Winter Hill, Haslingden Grane, Todmorden Edge, Blackstone Edge, the Laddow Rocks, Kinder Scout, the Limestone Way and Shining Tor.

The accompanying website is packed with information and includes comprehensive route descriptions by stages, together with maps. There are recommendations for public transport options and suggested refreshment stops.
