This walk will commence from Whins Lane, Wheelton, in the area of the track down to the canal. Nearest postcode PR6 8HN. Map Ref SD603217. There is ample parking available along Whins Lane which carries very limited through traffic.

The circular route of 18 miles takes in a particularly lovely section of The Leeds to Liverpool canal. Hoghton Towers. Hoghton Bottoms. Abbey Village. Brinscall. Whitnell Plantation. Whitnell Moor. White Coppice and Heapey.

The only climb of any note is the one through Whitnell Plantation onto The Moor. There are a couple of sections across farmland which potentially will be wet underfoot.

Overall Its a great mix of canal and riverside, woodland and open moorland which on a clear day provide stunning views across the region
