Well, I'm home. I had a great time at Loch Ossian. This time though I had a seat on the Caledonian Sleeper, the price of a bed went up over a £100.
I arrived at Corrour, the station where you get off the train for Loch Ossian at 9am Saturday morning (Sat 6th July) to be met by Ed who I’d met last year, and went straight into the station restaurant for a full Scottish fry up.
Then it was the mile hike to the SYHA, Loch Ossian. I met up with Jan, the hostel warden and moved in to find my bed for the next 6 nights. It turned out that there was a large group from Edinburgh who had nearly taken over the hostel, so for the first night it was mixed dorms. (And they had switched the male and female dorms around for some reason). After I had sorted myself out, myself and Ed went for a short hike, Ed has a few problems so he is not able to walk as far.
Back at the hostel late afternoon I had the first of my pre-packed camping meals for dinner. A few beers that night then I hit the sack for the night and slept well after sleeping in a seat for 12 hours the night before.

Sunday... 14 miles I decided to walk around the Loch for my first day. It's not that far, 8 miles, so I went a bit further and did a 6 mile return walk to a small loch just north of Loch Ossian called Loch Ghuilbinn. Got drenched returning but dried out by the time I got back to the hostel.

Monday... Walked to Spean Bridge from the hostel, (17 miles), I wanted to get the train to Spean Bridge then walk back but the first train was at 11.20 so I decided to start early at 6 am and then catch the train back. It was a great walk and I got to Spean Bridge at 3.15 pm so had a 2.5 hr wait for the train.

Tuesday... Decided to go up Ben La Nap, a Munro that overlooks the hostel, then down the other side and then walk back along the road back to the hostel.It was very windy on the top but the weather stayed dry.

Wednesday... Bit of a lazy day. Went up to the ridge of Leum Uilleim, a Corbet, just on the other side of the railway station, took a few photos then back down for a pint in the restaurant.

Thursday... Went into Fort William for the day with Ed, did a bit of shopping for Jan the hostel warden and of course being Thursday it was curry club in Wetherspoon’s before the train back. I was going to go to Mallaig but the train times did not favour it as by the time we got there we would have had only 2 hours before we had to return.

Friday... Just stayed around the hostel and chilled out, a young lady called Jade went in for a swim in the Loch. I said that I would join her but did not have my swimmies with me so she lent me her shorts so in I went, IT WAS FREEZING. At 5pm it was time to head for the station and a last meal in the restaurant, then at 20.50 the Caledonian Sleeper arrived and it was time to head home.
I had another fantastic time, some good laughs at night in the hostel with others staying there and of course I took a 10 pack of Speckled Hen so a few beers before I went to bed.

In case your wondering the seats on the Caledonian Sleeper were not bad, not as comfortable as a bed of course, but you have a bit of room for your legs, more than an airplane, but I did find that the aircon was a bit chilly so I asked for it to be turned up. They gave me a blanket instead, and I slept pretty well.
