Welland Way - Saturday 31 May 2014

Ldr: Alan Leadbetter

King’s Cliffe – through the woods to Duddington –a very attractive village – roses round the church porch and in the village gardens - River Welland – road diverted through a farmyard at Tixover – mid-morning break on the village green at Barrowden  - overlooking the pond with duck houses, lilies and yellow irises – very pretty - we all wanted to live here. Morcott – Seaton – views across the valley of the Harringworth Viaduct –  and then a paddle to it - under Arch 26 – lunch at Harringworth – Shotley – USAAF Memorial –  sky full with red kites - Laxton – Laxton Hall – Fineshade Top Lodge Tea Room – through the woods back to King’s Cliffe.

Only 6 of us – because the start was so far north – pleased to meet Ian's friend Jill - 19 interesting miles - pretty villages – good views – millionaire’s shortbread, chocolate and jelly babies from the leader – tea and ice cream in the afternoon –– good chatter and laughs.  We all enjoyed the walk.  Full marks Alan - 10/10!
