Out & Back to Barton – Twice - Thursday 30th April 2026
Leader: Dee Brockway
A quick plea to the weather maker upstairs was duly answered. A total of 21 folk enjoyed clear skies and a warm day making the cooler easterly wind more bearable.
3 chose to leave at lunch, 4 joined us for the afternoon. (Leave it to the reader to do the maths as to how many were actually walking on the 2 loops).
A few small hill climbs were rewarded with lots of lovely views, eg from the top of Pegsdon hill, Wardown hill, Galley Hill, Barton hills and Sundon CP disused chalk quarries (now reclaimed by nature).
We enjoyed spotting landmarks of northern Luton from the ridge but some of us were slightly disappointed that the mighty Hatters ground at Kenilworth Road, soon to be no more, was not visible.
Huge thanks to Jim B and Terry for ably back marking the morning and afternoon loop respectively.
