Although Alfie led most of the way

Seven of us plus Alfie left Piddington and headed out through Salcey. It was a lovely walk through Salcey Forest with the birds singing; we even saw a deer in the forest.

After a couple of miles we left Salcey and headed across open fields heading for Stokepark Wood where we had our morning break on a conveniently placed bench.

After our break we headed SE over to the outskirts of Gayhurst with Stoke Goldington over to our left, before skirting around Gayhurst Wood and over the M1 to head for Tathall End. From Tathall End we walked along the road then turned right and skirted a small wood and headed for Hanslope where we had our lunch in the Watts Arms beer garden. (Lunch was going to be in The Cock but it was closed.)

After lunch we headed back over the M1 and back into Salcey Forest for another delightful walk through the forest. We had 10 minutes at the Visitor Centre for coffee for those who wanted one. Then it was a short hop back into Piddington.

Thanks to Diane who came all the way from Holmfirth to walk with us and to the pirateteer Capt Liz Sheffield pirate of the high Sal-seas, (ooppps did I spell Salcey wrong) who came along for her third time.

Ok, ok let me explain. At one point in Salcey Forest we should have turned left then right on a road for only about 200 yards, Liz knew a better route which stayed in the forest and everybody followed Liz (HUH)
