Rutland Round Pt 1 Oakham to Eye Brook Reservoir - Thursday 19th February 2026

Leader: Nick Emery

17½ miles

Well, what a day, dull and overcast all day and “THE MUD and the HILLS”.

18 of us left Eyebrook Reservoir for the minibus trip to Oakham where we started our walk, heading for the hills and the mud.

We headed off out of town, SE for Egleton, then SW for Brook. After Brook we headed for Braunston-in-Rutland where we had our first morning T/Break at 5.5 miles.  After 10 mins we were herded off for Belton in Rutland for our second 10 min morning stop.

Then it was on to Uppingham where we had 20 mins for a pint, if you wanted one that is. After Uppingham it was a short 4 miles back to the cars parked at Eyebrook Reservoir.

It was a great day but the hills were relentless and the mud made it hard going in places. Some of the hills just kept going and going and going UP, then we would go back down only to go back up again. In some places there would be a flood which we could not go around, and that made for some comical sights trying to negotiate them. (Check the photos on FB.)

Led expertly by Nick we all arrived back to our cars with no injuries. Thanks for a great walk Nick
