A Second Pilgrim's Progress Pt 1 Bedford to Ridgmont - Thursday 20th November 2025

Leader: Jerome Ripp

A great day out with Jerome on a joint walk with London Group. 15 walkers, fairly equally divided between the two groups.

Jerome is paying homage to John Bunyan, following his life from his birth in Bedford to his grave in London.

We all met at Bedford Midland Station and headed for the River Ouse, stopping by the statue of another John, John Howard the 18thC prison reformer, who gave his name to the Howard League for Penal Reform.
We followed the Ouse Valley Way along the river out of Bedford and on to Bromham. We soon picked up the John Bunyan Trail and walked on to our lunch stop at Cranfield. A choice here, the pub, a cafe, seats outside the church, seats in the church porch. I can vouch for the warmth and comfort inside the church.
The afternoon was shorter, lots of open countryside after Cranfield, We certainly knew it was windy up there.  Jerome had us at the finish at Ridgmont in good time for a train either way, east back to Bedford or west to Bletchley. For those who had left their cars at Ridgmont, it was just a pleasant end to the day.

Thank you Jerome for a good walk. Looking forward to the next one.
