North Beds Heritage Trail Pt 3 Sharnbrook to Bedford - Thursday 28th September 2025

Leader: Terry Brown

We had 16 takers for Part 3 of the North Beds Heritage Trail. We would have had 17 but Francoise’s car got a puncture on the way.

The weather forecast had predicted clouds and rain in the afternoon but we were very lucky with bright sunshine at the start of the day. We did get a brief cloud burst in the afternoon, that lasted just long enough for us to get our waterproofs out and donned before it cleared up and we were back in sunshine again.

From the river front in Bedford’s town centre we headed south west along the river bank, before turning north west towards Bromham, just skirting the edge of Great Denham and Biddenham. We passed Bromham Mill which is a popular stopping point for many BBN walks, but no stopping today.

Then again south west towards Stagsden where a rather large bough collided with Chris Bent’s head. I am pleased to report that the tree suffered no damage. Unfortunately the same cannot be said of Mr B’s bonce.

Tea break was taken at the church of St Leonard at Stagsden. Then off to Turvey where we took lunch and on to Carlton and Odell, for a tea break at the café at the country park. And before you knew it, we were back in Sharnbrook.

An excellent walk! Part 3 down, just 1 more to go!
