16 walkers arrived for Part 2 of the North Beds Heritage Trail, from Sharnbrook to Roxton.

The day wasn’t long underway when the peace and quiet was shattered by the booming reports from a clay pigeon shooting range next to the path. No sooner were we out of range of the gunfire, than the throaty roar of petrol engines could be heard coming from the Bedford autodrome at Thurleigh.

Before long we arrived at our 1st stop at Riseley, whereupon Roy, our leader for the day, demanded money for the tolls for the turnpike. All requests were politely declined.

We continued across fabulous rolling countryside, through pretty villages, and along enclosed bridleways which provided some relief from the sun.

Our lunch break was at Keysoe International equestrian centre. Now the quality of the café here was somewhat above the usual standard for BBN. Liveried staff providing table service no less. Very nice and we were a little surprised that they were quite happy for us to eat and drink our own food on the premises.

The afternoon continued to be warm with bright sunshine, and although there was a breeze, the air was also warm and so offered little relief. So we were well pleased to halt briefly at the church of St. Denys in Colmworth, and later at the church of St. Nicholas at Wilden.
