North Bedfordshire Heritage Trail Pt 1 Roxton to Sandy - Thursday 31st July
Leader: Chris Bent
A baker’s dozen arrived nice and early at the pick-up point in Sandy and soon arrived at the start point in Roxton. From there a short walk to the Great Ouse and the Ivel.
A quick stop in Tempsford to see the memorial to the women who served as secret agents in occupied Europe during the Second World War, the RAF aircrew who transported them, and the personnel from allied secret services who were killed in the war.
After Tempsford, we walked through the pretty little village of Everton, and on to Potton for our lunch stop. We then started our loop back towards Sandy, via Sutton.
Although the Met Office had issued yellow warnings for thunder and lightning, the day turned out to be quite warm and humid, without a drop of rain. So the brief stop towards the end of the walk, at the RSPB café at the Lodge Nature reserve was a very welcome break.
Thanks to Chris Bent for leading the walk.
