Return to Strawberry Hill for the Spring Chorus - Thursday 24th April 2024
Leader: Steve Clark
A great day was had on Thursday on the Return to Strawberry Hill for the Spring Chorus.
11 of us left the CP at Harrold-Odell Country Park at 9.30am and headed for Sharnbrook. We joined the Ouse Valley Way for a little while, then through Sharnbrook and then out into the countryside heading for Strawberry Hill Wildlife Trust. (Strawberry Hill is now owned exclusively by the Wildlife Trust, Beds, Camb and Northants.)
Tea break just inside a wood about a mile before we got to Strawberry Hill, then on we trod and entered Strawberry Hill WT. We heard quite a few birds singing in the trees but could not see them due to it being very thick scrub. A few walkers had their Merlin bird apps on to identify the birds we could hear. The list they made were Lesser White Throat, Common White Throat, Willow Warbler, Chiffchaff, Grasshopper Warbler, Nightingale and Cuckoo. Not a bad list eh.
Leaving Strawberry Hill we walked through the beautiful West Wood then headed for Souldrop where we had our lunch break at the church.
Leaving Souldrop we encountered some very high spirited horses in a field and one ran very close to Val who got knocked over.
After we got out of that field we headed out into the countryside and into Odell Great Wood, then back to our cars at Harrold-Odell Country Park.
