If You Go Down To The Woods Today - Thursday 27th March 2025

Leader: Liz Sheffield

Cor bleedin blimey, following Liz around certainly has surprises. Last time it was the mud and this time it was a runaway horse.

Well we left Roade at 9.30am and headed out towards Ashton, through Ashton and then skirted around Hartwell. T break was after 1.5 hours, then we went under the M1 and into Salcey Forest for a breathtaking walk through the woods. I love walking through woodland.

Lunch was at the cafe in Salcey Forest where we sat at the tables eating our lunch with a large party of schoolies not far from us.

After lunch we headed out of Salcey Forest and towards Piddington. Just before Piddington we turned left and zig-zagged our way back over the M1 heading back to Roade. We had an afternoon T break in the sun and there was a settee sitting in the middle of nowhere so I laid out on it and nearly fell asleep in the sun until Liz shouted for us to move.

Not far from the end we encountered a rider with another horse on a rope which had managed to slip away from the rider, but it turned out not to be too much of a problem, in fact we stopped and had a chat with the lady rider who was riding a horse much smaller than the one she was leading.

We headed on with the water tower in the near distance. It was not far from where we’d parked our cars and arrived safely back in Roade and the cars.

Expertly led by Liz and an excellent route. The sun shone for a lot of the time and we all had a great day.
Nice one Liz. Cheers babe.
