Another sunny day for our second section of the Jurassic Way, walking from Woodford Halse to Watford.

Highlights:

• Charwelton - the old packhorse bridge over the infant River Cherwell
• Our mid-morning break at the church at Hellidon
• Lots of black lambs
• Lower Catesby with its Catesby family links to the Gunpowder Plot
• The Catesby Viaduct across the valley
• The muddy field and steep descent – we had been forewarned – but after the previous week’s dry and sunny weather this presented no problem at all
• The Jurassic Way marker post on the Green at Staverton
• The lunch stop at Braunston and a pint by the Grand Union Canal at a very busy Admiral Nelson, buzzing on a sunny Saturday lunchtime
• Ashby St Ledger, again with links to the Gunpowder Plot.
• Looking back over the hills we had crossed and knowing it was all downhill to the Watford Gap, where the railway, canal and motorway cut through the surrounding hilly countryside
• Ascending the locks on the GUC Leicester Line and crossing the final couple of fields back to Watford
• A day of attractive villages, lovely countryside and lots of great views all around
