Ghyll Head 2019

Ghyll Head 2019. Dec 2nd - 6th 2019.

Monday.

Some of us made a longer day of it by meeting at Lakeland in Windermere for lunch. Everyone else met at the bungalow for 3pm ready for a few days of eating and drinking...oh, and some walking too!

After rearranging the beds and settling in, we enjoyed a fabulous meal courtesy of Viv and Barbara. Some of us entered into the spirit of the week by wearing Christmas jumpers, bah humbug to those who didn't!

The evening continued with a game or two, a tradition of Ghyll Head, a throwback to parlour games.

Tuesday.

Up and with an excellent breakfast inside us we left Ghyll Head to walk to Gummers How. Nick had kindly been and reccied this walk so he was able to lead us over to Gummers How. There were lovely views of the lenght of Windermere enhanced by 2 Typhoons zooming down its length. After scaling these heights we walked through some forest and over towards the Lyth Valley. We didn't pass the Mason's Arms, we went in and had a quick drink before returning to Ghyll Head in the gathering dusk.

Another meal and then it was games night. Bagatelle, darts etc with Barbara emerging as the winner.

Wednesday.

Another good breakfast and off to cross the chain ferry and walk the length of Windermere to Ambleside. It is a very pleasant walk by the side of the lake with lunch at Wray castle. Unfortunately the weather did close in as we approached Ambleside but the ferry back to Bowness still gave us some views of the lakeside.

A wet return to Ghyll Head but a great meal and a pleasant evening as always.

Thursday.

Today it was time for another Ghyll Head tradition, a walk to Wilf's in Stavely for lunch. Some of the party had never been before despite visiting the lakes many times. Over the valley and along the Dales Way to Stavely. 2 members who did not walk joined us for lunch. It stated raining heavily so some were grateful to accept the offer of a lift back. The rest were undeterred by the weather and walked back, they were extremely wet on their return!

The final evening after another lovely meal included a beetle drive, again another throwback game.

Friday.

Up and the final breakfast, pack and move the beds back. Home after a great few days away. All of those there have booked again for next year. It's the start of Christmas to the regulars.
