Social walks
We have already had two fantastic social walks in July – thank you to leaders Gill and Rob and the two Peters. It was lovely to see some new members joining us on both walks and there are lots of pictures in our Photo Album
There are still two more social walks to come in July - Part 2 of Richard’s Capital Ring and Jane is leading a mid-week walk in the East Herts/ West Essex area. Check the Future Walks section of our website for any updates to these walks
Sunday 21st July: Capital Ring (Clockwise), Part 2. 21 miles 9.30 am, New Beckenham Station, Pavilion Lane BR3 1QW. Leader: Richard Rose 07980 340038
Meet outside the west entrance of the station building on Pavilion Lane. Trains from London Bridge depart 08.27 or 08.57 and arrive at New Beckenham at 08.47 or 09.17 respectively. (Fare is £4.40 with railcard.)
The route follows the Capital Ring from New Beckenham to Crystal Palace, then on to Norwood Common, Streatham Common (with a mid-morning stop at Rookery Cafe), Tooting Common, Wandsworth Common (lunch stop at Skylark Cafe @11miles on Dorlcote Rd). In the afternoon the route crosses Wimbledon Park and Common, Richmond Park and finally follows the Thames into Richmond.
Our expected finish is 5pm at Richmond Station: Tube, Mainline and Overground trains.

Thursday 25th July: A walk from Finchcroft. 15.5 miles. 9.30am, Finchcroft Stables, Thorley Lane West, CM23 4BN (TL 465 200) (just off the B1004) Leader: Jane Skinner 07757 916138
Loo and refreshments available before setting out. The morning route goes from Stortford to Rickling Green via Bury Green, Hadham Hall and Manuden (morning break). Lunch will be at Rickling Green where there is a pub.
The afternoon route goes through the Quendon Estate via bridleways to Wicken Bonhunt then just touches Newport before finishing at Audley End Station, where there is a frequent train service back to Bishop’s Stortford. The day will end with a 20 minute walk through the more historic part of Bishops Stortford & pleasant housing estates/open parkland to return to Thorley Lane West and our cars.

A Centenarian!
Finally for this update, George Eastwood who was one of the very early members of Essex and Herts, recently celebrated his 100th birthday. He was sent a congratulatory card on behalf of as all and we let him know that Essex and Herts LDWA is still going strong and we will be celebrating our 50th anniversary next year.
