Mid - May

Good afternoon  everyone, and welcome to  your Mid-May update, which has been issued  a bit later than usual  so we can wish all our Speyside 100 participants the best of luck for  next  weekend.

Social  walks:

There are no more social walks planned in May, but we do  have a couple arranged for early June  -  Richard Rose will be leading part of the Capital Ring on Sunday  June 2nd ( Essex & Herts LDWA - Capital Ring (Clockwise) Part 1 )  and  on  Sunday June 9th Francoise will be spotting benches in the Weston area on a joint walk  with  BBN (Essex & Herts LDWA - Spot the Benches ).

There will be more details of both  these walks in the June update.

Speyside 100

There’s  less than  a week  to  go  now until the Speyside 100 and I  know some of you are about to  start  the long journey  north (double check the kit list before you set off!). There are 17  Essex and  Herts Primary members registered on the 100, plus of course many of our  Associate members from other LDWA groups. Good luck to  you all  - we hope everything goes according to  plan, and we can’t wait to  hear  your stories and see your  pictures.  Dave and M from BBN have walked the route over five days – here are M’s thoughts on it:  100 Notes

Essex and Herts aren’t running a checkpoint this year, but kudos to the  friends and families supporting our walkers  who have offered their help at  checkpoints or with  transport.

For any fellow dot watchers out there, the  tracking link  for the Speyside 100 will go  live on Saturday morning : https://track.trail.live/event/speyside-100   The link is also  on the Speyside 100 website   2024 Hundred LDWA

Challenge Events

If this year’s 100 is inspiring  you to  enter the  Norfolk and Suffolk 100 next year,  it’s never too  early  to  start getting some miles under your belt, and  there are a number of  local challenge walks coming up  over the next  month or so :

Our very  own Herts Hobble is on Sunday 23rd June. This year it will be starting from Baldock (with  a station c½ mile away) and the scenic  route got the thumbs up from the marshals who walked it out yesterday  : SiEntries - Herts Hobble 2024

Other events  include:

BBN -   SiEntries - Pick and Mix

Kent - SiEntries - High Weald Challenge (26m/20m/15m)

N &S -  SiEntries - Rodent Wriggle

That’s all for this week, except to  say  well done to  Liz and Steve who took part in the tough Jurassic Coast Ultra Challenge last week: Liz and Steve
