Route
A linear walk from Bishops Stortford to Saffron Walden. Starting from Finchcroft Stables, Thorley Lane West. CM23 4BN. Off B1004. The livery yard on Thorley Lane West, has ample, safe level parking for up to 20 vehicles. Loo. Kitchenette. Happy to provide refreshments before setting out. Stortford to Bury Green (hamlet with Polo Grounds) then to Hadham Hall (former school). Manuden (morning tea stop in this attractive village with church & PH, The Yew Tree). Rickling Green (for lunch at The Cricketers PH, or picnic lunch overlooking the cricket pitch). Quendon estate via bridleways to Wicken Bonhunt (ancient chapel) Newport (edge of). Quendon Estate again Sparrows Hill & railway crossing. Short piece of road walk to Audley End station, where there is a frequent train service to Bishop’s Stortford. The day will end with a 20 min walk through the more historic part of the Bishops Stortford & pleasant housing estates/open parkland to return to Thorley Lane West
General Notes
Audley End (for Saffron Waldon) is on the Cambridge/Liverpool St Line. Trains run every 30 mins. Express trains take 17 mins, stopping trains 37 mins. RAIL FARES Off peak journey with railcard, £3.60. Off peak no railcard, £5.50 This is a repeat, of Jane’s successful walk last year
