Social  walks and Challenge walks

We have two social walks planned for May, plus  the Herts Hobble Marshals’ Walk.

Sunday 12th May:  Spring Walk,  18 miles. 9am,  Danbury Sports & Social Club. Mayes Lane car park CM3 4N Leader: Ginny Powell  - 07736 946955

A Spring walk  through  woods, fields, and along  lanes . The lunch  stop will be after approximately 10 miles at a pub where we can eat  our own sandwiches outside, but please note the  pub only takes cash payments. Sorry, no dogs.

Wednesday 15th May: Byron and the Romans.  20 mile linear walk from either Duxford or Whittlesford Parkway Station to Cambridge North Station. Leader: Richard Rose -  07980 340038

A choice of two start times:

  1. 9am start: If you are travelling to the start by car,  meet at the junction of St John's Street  & Moorfield Road, Duxford There is free on-street parking on both roads which are wide enough to accommodate parked cars. Please park considerately as it is a residential area. The post code for  1 Moorfield Road is CB22 4PP. There will then be a  short walk to Whittlesford Parkway Station.
  2. 9.30am (for a 9.35am depart): If you are travelling by train, please be at Whittlesford Parkway Station by 9.30am for a 9.35 start. (See Richard’s notes on train times and station parking  on our Future Walks page Essex & Herts LDWA - Byron & the Romans )

The  full route will be  Duxford, Whittlesford, Sawston, Wandlesbury Roman road & Worts Causeway, Medical district Cambridge, Trumpington, Grantchester (with detour to the Byron Pool), lunch stop/tea stop at The Orchard Tea Garden, Grantchester Meadows, River  Cam & Cambridge Backs to Trinity College & Jesus Green, ending at Cambridge  North Station.  There are regular trains back  to  Whittlesford Parkway.

Sunday 19th May: Herts Hobble Marshals’ Walk: 26.2 or 18 miles.  For Herts Hobble Marshals only.

This  supported marshals’ walk  will give marshals both the opportunity  to  walk  the Hobble route  in advance, and to  double check all is OK with  the route descriptions and GPX files. Completion of either route also  counts towards the Essex and Herts Triple Challenge.  If you have already  volunteered to  help on the Herts Hobble on Sunday 23rd June we will be in touch with you shortly.   We could however do with  a few more marshals for this event  –  just  get  in touch if you could help for all or part of the  day:  essexandherts@ldwa.org.uk
