January 2024

Best wishes for the New Year everyone and I hope you have lots of walking planned over the coming  months. I know some of you will be out on the Stansted Stagger on Sunday and hoping that the weather improves very, very soon.

We have two social walks to look forward to in January, and looking slightly further ahead, our AGM takes place in February.

Social Walks

Sunday 14th January: A Bit of a Hobble. 18 miles.  9am, Tesco car park, High Street, Baldock, SG7 6BN. Please park in the rear car park near the Click & Collect point (What3words ///debit.cargo.rot). The morning stop will be at Wallington after 7 miles and lunch will be at Gravely (pub available) after 13 miles.  Leader:  Richard Haynes Tel: 07505 000363

If the weather is bad the walk can be shortened

Annual General Meeting

The 2024 Essex and Herts AGM will be held on Saturday 3rd February 2024 at the WI Hall, Garden Terrace Road, Old Harlow CM17 0AT. The meeting will commence at 9.30am, and will be followed by an afternoon walk around some of Harlow’s many  sculptures.

Any nominations for the Committee should be received by the Secretary by Saturday 6th January.  Email: essexandherts@ldwa.org.uk

Any substantive motion for the Annual General Meeting must be submitted to the Committee by Saturday 6th January and must include the names of the proposer and seconder who shall be members of the Group.

As of today (2nd January) we still haven’t received any nominations for the positions of Chair and Secretary, both vital roles within the group. Both are essentially conduits of information and ideas between the LDWA NEC and our members.  The committee meets three or four times a year, and as Gill said in her festive message, it’s not time consuming as we work as a team.  Please consider putting yourself forward for one of these roles. Gill (Chair) and Jackie (Secretary) are more than happy to discuss them with you.

The Winter Poppyline – Saturday 10th February

Essex and Herts will be running a checkpoint on Norfolk & Suffolk’s Winter Poppyline on February 10th   Due to  a change of location for the start, our checkpoint is now at Felmingham Village Hall, Aylsham Road, Felmingham, North Walsham NR28 0LD.

Thank you to those who have already offered to help at this checkpoint, but we could still do with  a couple more marshals. We will be providing a basic hot meal and a dessert as well as hot and cold drinks. Please let me know if you can help:  jackiecburnett92@gmail.com

That's all  for this update,

Happy Walking
