Walk Report
Article and photos by Nick Lawrence. This often very wet walk was preceded by an exciting bus ride from Chalgrove to Garsington. The excitement was watching our bus inch past a hole in the road to get to our stop. We inspected two ways not to cross the Thame: the deep “ford” at Chippinghurst Manor, and the lost (or some say legendary) stepping stones downstream. Finally, we used a boring modern bridge to reach the Chequers at Berrick Salome, for an outrageously leisurely lunch. John Esslemont correctly spotted that, at two points, the map was right, not the leader. Nearly 16 miles in 6 hours, including the leisurely lunch.
