Thames Valley's 50th Anniversary Celebration for LDWA

Thames Valley's original plan was to combine two walks and a social event on the day itself (19th June 2022), but we eventually decided, particularly as we normally divide into ‘A’ and ‘B’ walks of different length and pace, that this was logistically too difficult. Hence we held two A and B walks as usual, both starting at Henley, and then an integrated social event two weeks later.

The A walk, led by Andrew Beck, was substantially longer than usual, in order to reach 50km, with the route being chosen to link the two historic locations of our Oxon 20/40 challenge walk at Henley and Stokenchurch. All 14 participants successfully completed the two traverses of the Chiltern Hills necessary. See first photo.

The B walk, led by Gerry Garland, attended by 11 members, was half this length and run as usual at a more sedate pace.

Duncan Macgregor then led an integrated walk for 16 members of the group from West Wycombe on July 3rd that stopped for a ‘Cream Tea’ celebration at the Red Lion at Bradenham en route. As the name implies, this is one of a trend of pubs transitioning to tea rooms in the Chilterns. See second photo.

Thames Valley was one of the earliest groups so it is only four years till our own 50th anniversary.
