Dear TV Challenge Walkers
Entries are now open for the Punchbowl Marathon with splendid views on the Surrey Heathlands. It’s on 11 February and has 2 routes - 20 miles and 30 miles. All the details can be found at
On Saturday 13th April 2024, the South Wales Group will host a 50 mile challenge event that will start and finish in the town of Abergavenny. The event combines the best bits of the Covid cancelled 2020 Y 100 Sir Fynwy and sections of the rain affected Valleys 100 that was hosted in 2014.
The event consists of two loops that start at and return to Abergavenny. Loop 1 is approximately 30 miles long and will explore the Black Mountains before heading east to Longtown, then south to Pandy before returning to Abergavenny via The Skirrid.
The second loop will see entrants explore the UNESCO Forgotten Landscapes scenery above Blaenavon. The route will take entrants to key locations that were so important in the early 18th century with regards to iron making before heading up on to Coity Mountain and returning to Abergavenny via Cwmavon and the Monmouthshire & Brecon canal.
This will not be an easy 50 mile event and entrants will be given 24 hours to complete the challenge. Indeed, it might even be the LDWA's hardest 50 mile event in 2024 with several thousand feet of height ascent to be walked. But the route is a visual delight, will take entrants to beautiful locations and entrants will be looked after by friendly and supportive South Wales LDWA Group members.
To date over half of the available places have been sold and it is currently only possible to enter the 50 mile option. We deliberately did not offer the 30 mile option immediately in order to give people the opportunity to obtain a place on the 50 mile event.
But, on 02.01.24 an additional event of 30 miles will be offered and based on feedback, we believe that the 30 mile option will be popular.
So, if you're determined to enter the 50 mile route, don't risk not getting a place and enter before 02.01.24.
