Walk Report

Clive West has been an active member of our group for longer than anyone else (although he insists on pointing out he isn't our oldest member or even our oldest active member). On 20th November 1983, he enjoyed his first walk with Thames Valley LDWA. Fortunately for us, not only did he keep a note of the date but also of the villages they visited so that 30 years later, give or take a few weeks, he was able to lead our social walk over the same route.

18 members joined Clive on an autumn day which started with damp mist but soon cleared to become unseasonably warm. Starting and finishing at the Maharajah's Well in Stoke Row we followed Clive's 30-year-old tracks through Nuffield and along Grim's Ditch to the banks of the Thames, then via North and South Stoke, Ipsden and Hailey back to Stoke Row. Jan had made flapjacks for our morning break and Maureen provided cake at the end. Oh, and we stopped at a pub for cold drinks in the afternoon. It was a special occasion - at least that was our excuse.

Announcing a group photo to mark the occasion we made sure everyone gathered at the Well where Chairman Martin gave a short speech congratulating Clive on his achievement and presented him with a personal certificate and a bottle of champagne.
