Founders Tree Walk Wednesday 17th August 2022
Route
Gomshall Station (Two options: 1) 10.21 from London Bridge, arrive 10.37 East Croydon, change Redhill 10.52/11.00, arrive Gomshall 11.21, or 2) 10.30 from Waterloo, arrive 10.55 Woking, change Guildford 11.02/11.13, arrive Gomshall 11.30). End location: Guildford Station
This is a special walk to dig in the plaque beside the London Group Memorial Tree for departed members, planted near Pitch Hill in 2020. From Gomshall Station we walk via Peaslake up to the tree, where the plaque will be ceremonially dug into the ground, then continue up to Pitch Hill to admire the view from the Surrey Group topograph. We then follow the Greensand Way to Shamley Green before continuing along the Wey South Path into Guildford. There are several shorter options: (a) 5 miles, return self-guided from Pitch Hill to Peaslake for bus to Guildford; (b) 7.5 miles, return self-guided from Pitch Hill to Gomshall; (c) 7.5 miles, bus from Shamley Green to Guildford
General Notes
The walk will be at a fairly gentle pace. Take a picnic lunch, but there will be a short pub stop at Shamley Green. Email leader Colin Saunders to say you intend to go. Any issues on the day, phone 07768 453159

Out and About
This is from my recent holiday in Bulgaria, a pleasant walk up from a remote village to the point where Bulgaria, North Macedonia and Serbia meet. A walk around the marker involves a time zone change as well as crossing 2 international borders.
