An Ascension Island adventure

A biking and hiking trip round Ascension Island

On Tuesday 12 May, Adam Dawson gave a talk about trip he made in  2012 to Ascension Island, in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.

He described the journey there with the RAF from Brize Norton, then how he journeyed round this amazing volcanic 6-mile-diameter island on foot and on his "Brompton" folding bike, in search of Ascension Island's "letterboxes".

The slides give a flavour of his journey to one of the remotest islands on earth, and show how he found a bit of Cornwall located just south of the equator..

This place is remote - 1500 miles from the nearest land; 5000 miles from the UK

LDWA Walks

The LDWA organises many challenge events and local group social walks, as well as listing many more organised by other organisations. Challenge events are normally between 20 and 100 miles and must generally be completed within a defined time limit. Social walks are normally led walks of around 20 miles.
