NOTICES

1: New members

A warm welcome to the following new Primary members Jonathan Burns and Michael Berthoud.

2: Greetings from your Walks Secretary.

We have had a great start to 2024 and our 37 walks have so far missed the worst of the rain.  A walk has been held every Saturday and there have also been 14 midweek and 2 Sunday events.

We are very lucky to have a handful of prolific walk leaders who enjoy providing the bulk of events and it would be great to hear from some new ones. There are now some gaps appearing in the calendar so it’s a good time for members to consider creating and leading a walk or two.  If you fancy the idea please drop me a line. It’s not as onerous as you might imagine and there are usually experienced members willing to help if necessary on the day. You might even enjoy the experience!

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Keith Mills london.walks@ldwa.org.uk

The following Saturdays await suggestions…..

General Notes
An extended version of the 2020 London City Churches walk to include evidence of the long lost churches. The lost London churches project lists 113 C. of E. places of worship many of which are no longer in existence. The aim of today’s expedition is to visit the extant churches whilst seeking evidence of those which have long since disappeared from the London skyline. How many can we find? The aim is to reach at least 100 so do not expect an early finish. Prior registration by email is required for this walk which is restricted to 10 participants.

Then a tour of Wytham Park (*SEE BELOW*) View of the Trout Inn and then into Oxford along the Thames Path. Tour of town, colleges and the river. Finishing at Oxford Railway Station

General Notes
*IMPORTANT* Entrance to Wytham Park is for members only, so it is necessary that all walkers are members. Membership is free and simple to obtain, it takes 2 minutes to complete an application form online at https://www.wythamwoods.ox.ac.uk/permit. An automatic email response confirms your application and the email should be saved to confirm your membership. The woodlands and park extend over 1000 acres, so it is much larger than Hampstead Heath. This is a Festival Day in Oxford with large colourful crowds and races on the river. Picnic stops and woodland facilities during the day. Botley has shops to top up on supplies. 3. Friday17th May 2024: memorial plaque and tree maintenance - well they had to walk a bit to get there
