THE LEAN
The LDWA is sponsoring research work into’the lean’ as part of the Martyn Greaves funding. ‘The Lean’ is a postural control problem known to occur during ultra-endurance events such as the LDWA 100-mile challenge. ‘The Lean’ appears as an exaggerated sideways tilt of the upper body. This study aims to understand athletes’ experiences of having or observing ‘The Lean’. This will guide further investigation and inform lab- and field-based testing, with the goal of providing methods of prevention, response, and recovery. The research findings will provide the basis of an academic thesis and publicised information regarding suspected causes and methods of management.
If you have ultra-endurance experience of 30 miles or more (as an athlete or support crew), have experienced, observed or know of ‘The Lean’ and are aged over 18, please consider completing the questionnaire about your experiences. IMPORTANT: You are freely able to withdraw yourself and your data from the study at any time.
