Proposed Heart of Scotland Group

Posted on 2011-03-04

The LDWA hopes to set up an LDWA local group to cover roughly the area around Perth & Kinross, Fife, Tayside, Stirling and Angus. The very successful 'Heart of Scotland 100' was held in the area last May, and this suggests that there is sufficient interest to start a viable local group.

The first walk will be held of Sunday 13th March starting at Dunkeld (details below) and any members or friends in the area, or indeed from wider afield, are warmly invited to come along. It is hoped that a steering group can be set up to take the group forward.

Programme arranged so far:

Sunday March 13 - Dunkeld Revisited
18-20 miles. Meet 9.00am at the pay and display car park in Atholl Street (A923), Dunkeld (free parking available in streets) GR NO026428, Maps: Landranger 52 or 53. The walk will go northwards via Loch Ordie and includes the first part of last year's 100 route. Contact Ken Falconer T: 01334 478507 E: strider@falconers.me.uk

Saturday April 2 - Lomond Hills
14 miles. Meet 9.30am at the free car park off Main Street, Falkland village, GR NO254074, Maps: Landranger 58,59, Explorer 370. A mix of woodland and open hills including East Lomond (424m) & West Lomond (522m). Contact Jackie Hawkins T: 01334 656527. E: hawkins12@fsmail.net

Sunday May 15 - Ochils Circuit
20miles. Meet 9am at the small car park in Dollar by the bridge over Dollar Burn (or park in nearby side turnings) GR NS963979, Maps: Landranger 58, Explorer 366. The walk will take in the main Ochil ridge. Contact Ken Falconer T: 01334 478507. E: strider@falconers.me.uk

If sufficient interest is generated, further walks for the summer will appear on the LDWA website.

Why not come along and get actively involved in the creation of a new group and influence its future direction?
