Filey Flyer Postponed

Posted on 2010-01-11

Heavy snowfalls over the high ground have led to the postponement of the Filey Flyer, the long distance challenge walk due to be held at the East Coast resort this coming Saturday, January 16. A new date of Saturday March 20 has been arranged.

There was snow on the ground when our Marshals’ Walk checked out both the 16-mile and 22-mile routes the Saturday before last, but a blizzard toward the end did not augur well. Now the situation has become so unpredictable that it is sensible not to go ahead this week.” said Michael Collins, walks secretary of the East Yorkshire Long Distance Walkers’ Association, organizer of the event.

Our own checks allied to the advice of our farmer contacts shows drifting in the strong winds is adding to problems likely to he caused by the depth of the snow on the tops.”

Entries already made and paid for will stand for the new date in March and there will be full refunds for walkers unable to make the new date.
