E-Path 2 UK Section - John o'Groats to Traquair

Argyll and Bute, E Dunbartonshire, Edinburgh, Falkirk, Highland, Midlothian, N Lanarkshire, Borders, Stirling, W Lothian

The E2 in the UK was opened in 1999 between Stranraer and either Dover or Harwich, as a result of work by the LDWA.

In 2025 an alternate starting point was created by the LDWA at John o’Groats in the far north east of Scotland. This joins the original route at Kirkhouse near Traquair in the Scottish Borders, where it continues east on the Southern Upland Way.

It is an incredibly scenic route with wild sea cliffs in Northern Scotland; mountains in the Highlands; large, long lakes such as Loch Ness, allegedly home of a monster; canals; castles; bridges, and the historic cities of Inverness and Edinburgh. This is also a route used by those walking from Land's End to John o’Groats.

Although there are occasional waymarks the E2 is not generally marked, instead it links up underlying trails which are waymarked and have guidebooks and websites.
