Pentland Way E2 Link

The Pentland Way E2 Link joins the Pentland Way to the Water of Leith Walkway. Created as part of the E2 European Long Distance Path (E-Path), the E2 Link is also a means of accessing the Pentland Way, and the main Pentland ridge, from Currie, and the west side of Edinburgh.

The E2 Link was created in 2025 as part of a project for a long distance walking route from John o’Groats to Nice in the south of France. In general, E-Paths follow existing national and regional trails, however, no path was available to link long distance paths south of Edinburgh with those to the north. Consequently, the link was created allowing a route from the Cross Borders Drove Road, to the Pentland Way, then along the new E2 Link to the Water of Leith Walkway and onto the John Muir Way across Scotland.

The E2 Link leaves the main Pentland Way at Glencorse Reservoir following Maiden’s Cleugh from the reservoir’s north-west end. It turns north on Ranges Road then east on Harlaw Road, before following Poet’s Glen to the Water of Leith Walkway.
