London LDWA

Hello everyone!

We've got two great walks this week, both led by Lonica, which are guaranteed to lift the spirits as we head into high summer.

But first, a couple of admin notices..

1. Volunteers to lead LDWA walks in Spring 2017

Yes I know it sounds improbable but I (Adam D) am already on the quest to fill walks in our spring 2017 season (i.e. 1 Jan to 30 April).   We're driven by "Strider" publication deadlines, unfortunately, but if you feel ready to commit to leading a walk for us sometime in that period, then I and all London LDWA members would be immensely grateful!

You can check out the walks programme by clicking this link (scroll to the bottom of the page that appears) and will be able to see what dates are currently free.

Just reply to this email with a proposed date (that's all I need at the moment) if you'd like to help out.

And don't worry if you haven't led before - we can give you all the background you need to get you started.

Many thanks!

2. All you need to know about the LDWA London "Founders'" challenge, Sat 8 October

I hope you got the special email a couple of days ago about the up-coming "Founders'" challenge.   It's a fantastic hike, and it's open NOW to participants.   We're also on the look-out for people to help at the event on the day, and we're also asking our members to help publicise it to other potential entrants.

To learn all about the "Founders'", just click on this link, which will tell you all you need to know..

Get involved - it's great fun!

So, on to this week.

The first of Lonica's pair of walks is a TUESDAY (yes TOMORROW) evening exploration of some of the interesting squares of West London.   It's a six-miler from Embankment to Notting Hill and if you'd like to go, just make your way to Embankment tube station for 6pm on Tuesday evening.   I'm sure there will be adequate opportunities for "refreshment" at the end..

And the second of Lonica's outings takes us slightly further afield - to the North Downs and Greensand Ridge on Saturday.   Her walk visits both Box Hill and Leith Hill - beautiful landmarks in their own right and Leith Hill is also said to be the highest point in south east England, at just under 1000 ft.   If you'd like to go on this expedition, pack the oxygen cylinders and meet Lonica at Box Hill and West Humble station at 09.21 on Saturday morning.
The photo below shows the sorts of spectacular views you can expect to enjoy along the way.

Well that's all for now.   All the details of this week's walks are below, and in the meantime - have a great week!
