London LDWA

NOTICES

1: New members

A warm welcome to new primary member Nahanaeli Nassima; and associate members Jon Thomas, Jim Whitman, Catherine Egan, Ronald Green, Gareth Hawkins and Susanne Baillie.

2: Change of walk date.

The walk originally planned for Saturday 13th July will now be on Sunday 14th July. The walk is ELEL4: linear from St Albans to Ware.

3: Beach of Dreams 2025

The Committee is considering the group’s participation in the 2025 Beach of Dreams project. This is being led by Kinetika – Ali Pretty, a former chair of London LDWA, is the Artistic Director.

In May 2025 people will walk together along as much of the coastline of the UK as possible ”in a collective moment of reflection and action to re-imagine our relationship with the coast and inspire positive climate action”.

Local organisations throughout the country, including LDWA and Ramblers groups, are being asked to participate. As a project member, a group would

  • lead walks over a section of the coast for a stated number of days, possibly with associated artistic activities;
  • design and receive a silk pennant to carry on their walk.

The project has Arts Council funding. For further information see www.beachofdreams.org

As our group regularly walks on the sections of the coast accessible from London, the Committee is minded to become a project member.

Gavin has offered to lead 3 days over the weekend of 3 -5 May (bank holiday) likely to be

Eastbourne to Brighton – distance   27 miles

Brighton to Littlehampton – distance 18 miles

Littlehampton to Chichester – distance 20  miles

Lonica will lead some walks on other dates perhaps linking with a planned carnival in Ramsgate on 24th May. Other London leaders may wish to lead other walks along the coastline in May.

As a member, London LDWA would be able to design and receive a silk pennant flag and be listed as a project member on the Beach of Dreams website for the sum of £210.  We would take the pennant on the coastal walks in May 2025 and would receive it back in September 2026 after it had toured in exhibitions with all other flags. We could then use it on other events we hold or participate in.

Being part of a national project like this would be a great way to promote the LDWA. If you have any comments please email them to london@ldwa.org.uk by the end of this week.
