1. New members

A warm welcome to new primary members Eva Jugman, Mary Porter, Emma Clegg, Tom Beasor, and Richard Earis; and new associate members Helena Crompton, Lisa Lowed, Peter Costello, Chris Eglington, Sally Scott and Rachael Williams.

2. London Group AGM: reminder

London Group's AGM will be on Wednesday 25th February: we have booked the upstairs private room at The Chapel Market Tavern, 58 Penton St, London N1 9PZ. We invite members to arrive from 6.30 for a 7 p.m. start.

If a member wishes to submit a motion to the meeting, please send it to london@ldwa.org.uk for the attention of Lonica Vanclay and Gordon Parker (Joint Secretaries) before midnight on Sunday 25th January. Please include the names of the Proposer and Seconder, who must be Primary Members of the London Group.

Also at the AGM, the posts of Chair and Treasurer fall vacant, the current holders of these posts having completed their constitutional time in office. As a result we need volunteers to replace them. If you think you'd be able to contribute in either of these roles we'd be delighted to hear from you. If you want to know what the jobs of each entail, please feel free to contact our current chair Gavin Fuller or our current Treasurer Jim Robinson - depending on which post you are interested in - or speak to them on a social walk. Nominations for these posts should be sent to the Joint Secretaries before midnight on Sunday 25th January. A nomination shall include the names of the Proposer and Seconder, who must be Primary Members of the group, and the Nominee’s agreement to stand.

A Western Adventure (Part 2) Teddington to Sunnymeads

Event Type: Group Walk.

Region: Southern England / London

Distance: 18 miles

Start Time: 10:10

Route: Meet at Teddington Station (09:30 train from Waterloo). Alternative starts can be made from Hampton Station at 10.53 (10.12 train from Waterloo) and also from Feltham station at 12.00. Parks, commons, nature reserves, Thames path; there may be some muddy sections. Bail out option at Staines after 12 miles. Finish at Sunnymeads station at dusk. Bail out option at Staines after 12 miles.

Notes: Picnic stops only: Moderate Pace. This is the second in a pilgrimage set of 8 walks with the aim of reaching the World Heritage Site of the Great Stone Circle at Avebury. If intending to come please notify the walk leader by Text message/WhatsApp, in advance if possible but even on the morning of the walk it is fine.

A 2nd Pilgrim's Progress (part 2) Ridgmont to Leighton Buzzard

Event Type: Group Walk.

Region: Southern England / London

Distance: 16 miles

Start Time: 9:15

Route: Meet at Ridgmont station. Suggested train is the 7.56 West Midlands from Euston arriving at Bletchley at 8.31, change to the Marston Vale line leaving Bletchley at 8.52 arriving at Ridgmont 9.09. It is also possible to travel to Bedford & take the 8.47 arriving at Ridgmont at 9.11 Car parking is free at Ridgmont station. Expect to finish at Leighton Buzzard in time for the 15.25 which arrives back at Ridgmont at 16.09. Other c.p options are at Leighton Buzzard or Bletchley. John Bunyan Trail, Greensand Ridgway, Woburn Park. Finish at Leighton Buzzard station.

Notes: Picnic Lunch stop in Woburn, moderate pace. If intending to come it would be helpful to notify the walk leader by Text message/WhatsApp, in advance if possible but even on the morning of the walk is fine. Background Information. “A Pilgrim's Progress” was a Long Distance Path which was covered in 5 social walks from Bedford to London in 2024. This 2nd Pilgrims Progress will follow an entirely different route, as a series of 6 social walks, only the start point in Bedford and the end point in London will be the same. We will follow the life of John Bunyan from his birth in Bedford to his grave in London. This will be a joint walk for the London group and the BBN group.
