Notice seeking nominations and motions for discussion at LDWA London Group AGM 22nd February 2023 at 18.30

Hi! Our Annual General Meeting is coming up. Write in your diaries now 18.00 Wednesday 22nd February 2023. The meeting will start at 18.30. Full and associate members are welcome but only full members get to vote (sorry).

The venue is the Meeting Room, Crown Court Church, Russell St, London WC2B 5EZ.  Although the official address is given as Russell Street, the entrance is, in fact from Crown Court which is part of a small web of passageways between the Royal Opera House and the Fortune Theatre.  The easiest way to find it is to walk north east up Russell Street.  When you reach the Fortune Theatre, turn left into Crown Court and the church is a few metres up on the left.  The second door has a bell push on it which you should use.

The nearest tube stations are Covent Garden and Holborn.

We need to elect some new committee members.  The people currently in post are mostly happy to stay on for another year. The posts falling vacant are Treasurer, Secretary and Social Secretary. We are also looking to co-opt a Liaison Officer to work with other like-minded organisations.  I attach a brief description of what each does. Please write to me on London@ldwa.org.uk to express interest.  We meet over a zoom link around 4 times a year.

We will also fill you in on what we have done as a Group over the past year. Once again, we need your ideas here. What would you like to see us doing, or is there a way you’d like the existing programme tweaked so that it would easier/more interesting for you to take part?

If you want to put a proposal to the meeting, let me know by Tuesday 24th January and give me the name of a seconder. But we’d also be happy to take ideas more informally from the floor.

Would you be interested in running a walk or two for the Group? If you fancy leading a walk this year, we aim to provide two walks per week: a short midweek walk, 7-ish miles, usually on a Wednesday evening, and a longer weekend walk of 20+ miles. It would be great to add a few new leaders to our current list of hard-working leaders. If you are interested or want more information, please contact Jean on london.walks@ldwa.org.uk. Contacting Jean will not commit you to providing a walk.

Committee Posts up for election.

Treasurer. To collate and keep an eye on the money coming in and out of the Group accounts. To prepare regular accounts to present to the committee. To advise the committee as to whether projects are financially viable and as to any financial developments they need to discuss. To liaise with the bank, the independent auditor and other people whose help and opinion is needed in order to keep the accounts in order. If you are not totally sure about any aspect of this, more experienced members would be happy to help just as much as you need.

Secretary. To consult with other committee members as to the dates of committee meetings. To remind members of upcoming meetings and to circulate an agenda, draft minutes for each such meeting together with supporting documents. To prepare each agenda. To record the minutes of each meeting. With the Chair, to ensure follow up on strategies agreed in each meeting. To arrange the Annual General Meeting and issue appropriate papers and notices.

Social Secretary. to organize additional activities for Group members with an emphasis on socializing or weekends away for two or more days of walking in a particular area.

Co-opted member post

Liaison Officer with other like-minded organisations. Creating a walking ethos and expanding and improving the network of footpaths across London is a job no one organisation can take on alone. The LDWA has important experience and insight into how to take this project forward. At present we are liaising with The National Trust, The Ramblers, Inspiral London, the Council for the Preservation of Rural England. Taking on this role involves attending regular   meetings drawing together the groups mentioned and drawing in appropriate experience from our members.
