Jonathon's Journey

Essex, Southend on Sea, Suffolk

119 km / 74 miles
The route traces an imagined journey to Ipswich of a 19th century barge hand called Jonathon.

Starting from the cockle-cooking sheds of Leigh-on-Sea the route crosses the grain of successive watersheds, including the Crouch, Chelmer Blackwater, Colne and Stour, on its way to Ipswich.

Train Stations at Rayleigh, Battlesbridge, Witham and Chappel offer the option of breaking the route into sections.
