Rossendale Way

Gtr Manchester, Lancashire

A high-level route around Bacup, Rawtenstall, Haslingden and Whitworth in the Rossendale Valley, crossing the open moors and farmland of the South Pennines which roughly follows the Rossendale Borough boundary. Although easy to follow, it does need care in poor conditions. The waymarked Weighver's Way (9 miles and on OS mapping) is a linear route from Hollingworth Lake, Littleborough, which connects with the Rossendale Way at Healey Dell. UPDATE MAY 2021 - We have been advised that there is a collapsed bridge near the Recreation Ground between Strongstry and Chatterton, GR 793 187. It may be best to seek an alternative route in this vicinity, possibly using the footpath on the west bank of the river.
