London LDWA

First, a reminder to walk leaders from Marie: with the Strider deadline fast approaching, if you have the basic details for your reserved walks and haven't yet sent them to her can you let her have them by 25th January AT THE LATEST so she has a couple of days to do the final alterations.

There are still 8 weekend slots available: 11th / 12th April, 30th / 31st May, 6th/7th June, 27th/28th June, 04th/05th July, 19th / 20th July, 25th / 26th July, 01st/02nd Aug. (Please check the website for the most up to date details when picking a date.) You can contact Marie on 07787 532793,

Meanwhile, our walk this Saturday features the Greensand Way, and if you're planning to go on it make a note of the change to train and start times owing to engineering work. All the detaiils below.

Closing date for nominations to the committee

As previously reported, the closing data for nominations to the London group committee is Wednesday January 29th, for ratification at the AGM on Wednesday 12th February. Next week we will circulate the agenda for the AGM and that will show the nominations already received. All of the current committee are happy to stay in post apart from the treasurer and co-secretaries who have to step down due to the three year limit on committee posts. So while we welcome nominations for any committee post we are particularly keen for nominations to fill the posts of treasurer and secretary since we do not currently have any. The success of London group depends on walk leaders, event organisers, event marshals and committee members doing their jobs. It is important to fill those committee vacancies to keep things running smoothly.

If you want to discuss what’s involved in being treasurer than please contact london.treasurer@ldwa.org.uk ; and for the secretary the email address is london@ldwa.org.uk. Nominations require a proposer and seconder.

More volunteers for the Capital Challenge, please

We're looking for a few more volunteer marshals for this year's Capital Challenge, which will be on Saturday 4 April.  This year's event will inaugurate a new route, starting in Waterloo and running west through the Royal Parks to Holland Park, then turning south through Chelsea and over the river to Battersea Park, Clapham Common, Brockwell Park, Dulwich & Sydenham Woods, and Crystal Palace Park, finishing in Penge.  We could use a couple more people at the start (St John’s Waterloo, SE1 8TY) and finish (St Hugh’s Community Centre, SE20 8PL), and also at checkpoints in Brompton Cemetery, Clapham Common, and the South London Scout Centre on Grange Lane, just outside Dulwich & Sydenham Woods.  Marshals can also walk the new route on Sunday 8 March, starting at 08:30.  If you're interested, please email Jean O'Reilly on joreilly3@mindspring.com or jean@addictionjournal.org for more details.
